Rockwood W. Bullard III
Rockwood was born in Chicago, Illinois, and reared in Clarkston, Michigan. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1962. He attended Northern Michigan University his freshman year where he lettered in downhill skiing. Rockwood served as a Counterintelligence Special Agent, Military Intelligence Branch, United States Army, from March 1967 to November 1969. He had a Top Secret security clearance. Rockwood was a Vietnamese linguist and graduated from Vietnamese language school. Rockwood was attached to the 101st Airborne Division, Hue, Vietnam, where he served from November 1968 - November 1969; he was also a liaison to the 1st ARVN Division during Tet, 1969. Rockwood was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star for his service. Upon returning from service, Rockwood was awarded a Bachelor of Arts, degree in June 1971, from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. His major was English and his minor Vietnamese. Upon graduation, Rockwood attended New England School of Law, Boston, Massachusetts, where he was awarded a Juris Doctor in June 1974. Rockwood earned Dean’s List; the Amos L. Taylor Award for Achievement; Law Day Award; Corpus Juris Secundum Scholarship Award — Constitutional Law. Rockwood also was a founder and Editor-in-Chief of New England Journal on Criminal Law and Confinement. He also published in this journal. Rockwood was admitted to practice law: 1975, District of Columbia ; 1976, Michigan ; 1977, U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan and U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit; 1979, U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the District of Columbia Bar. He has practiced throughout the United States and was admitted Pro Hac Vice in jurisdictions including Pennsylvania, Georgia, South Carolina, California, Minnesota, and Florida. Rockwood has served as Chairman - Member/Panelist on the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board from 1984 to present. The Attorney Discipline Board is the judicial arm of the Supreme Court of Michigan in connection with the discipline of attorneys. Rockwood also was elected to serve as a member of the Ecclesiastical Court, Diocese of Michigan, Detroit, Michigan, from 1998 to 2000 and from 2004 to present. He has served as Senior Warden and Vestryman for Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Clarkston, Michigan , 1989 – 1990; Vestryman for St. Andrews ’ Episcopal Church, Waterford, Michigan, 1998 – 2000; and presently attends All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Pontiac, Michigan. Throughout his career, Rockwood has served on many bar association committees. His most rewarding work was as Chairman of the Law Day Committee for the Oakland County Bar Association in 1982-1983. This committee was responsible for the placement of the Lady Justice statue removed from the old Pontiac Courthouse to the front of the Oakland County Circuit Court. He also served on the Institutional Review Committee, Pontiac General Hospital, Pontiac, Michigan from 1977 – 1982, which reviewed and approved new invasive prosthetics and drugs. He also served as the director of the Oakland County Chamber of Commerce from 1985 – 1987. Rockwood currently serves on the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee for the State Bar of Michigan. Rockwood has one reported case: Executive Jet Aviation v. Boyle, 444 U.S. 841 (1979). Rockwood has earned an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell® (Very High to Preeminent). |
